Welcome to Vahmaafushi

Vahmaafushi is a small uninhabited island of about two hectares in the lagoon off Maafushi, in South Malé Atoll. The original Vahmaafushi picnic island was washed away in the 2004 tsunami; a new island was reclaimed and handed to the Maafushi council in 2021, and it's now being developed as an experience-led picnic island for day visitors. There's a restaurant, beach cabanas, volleyball and basketball courts, showers and a prayer room, and from the jetty you can watch nurse sharks and stingrays. There are no overnight stays.

Getting around

Vahmaafushi is tiny and easy to explore on foot. Boats to the island leave from Maafushi, about two minutes away across the lagoon.
