Welcome to Maafushi Island
Maafushi is an inhabited island of around 4,500 people in Kaafu Atoll, about 26 km south of Malé. It's where the Maldives' local-island guesthouse scene began in 2010, and today it has more guesthouses than any other local island. The long, narrow island combines a designated bikini beach with a main street of cafés and dive shops, and it's the most popular base for snorkelling, sandbank and dolphin trips across South Malé Atoll.
Getting around
Maafushi is about 1.3 km long and easy to walk from end to end. Most guesthouses are a short walk from the harbour.
